Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem is a 4D simulator ride at Universal Studios Florida. It replaced Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast, which closed August 18, 2011. The ride is based on the popular Illumination Entertainment movie Despicable Me, starring Steve Carell, Miranda Cosgrove, etc.
Ride history/construction[]
Construction on Minion Mayhem began in August 2011. Insignia from the building themed after Jimmy Neutron was removed, and construction walls were built around the project later that month, to barricade the construction site from park guests. Signs were later posted to advertise that the ride would be coming soon. Finally, the ride's gift shop, which is themed after Super Silly Fun Land (the amusement park Edith, Margo, and Agnes convince Gru to take them to) opened on May 1, 2012, and ten days later, on May 11, the barricades (construction walls) finally came down, and the ride soft opened to employees at 2:00PM on June 8, 2012. The next day, on June 9, 2012, the ride soft opened to the public. The guests were satisfied with every part of Minion Mayhem, but lines were stretching out of the building.
Hollywood version[]
On March 11, 2013, Universal Studios Hollywood announced they would be opening a version of Minion Mayhem in their Upper Lot section. The park also said they planned to theme the ride's surrounding area to Super Silly Fun Land, the amusement park that Agnes, Edith, and Margo persuade Gru to take them to in the movie. As a result, T2 3-D: Battle Across Time closed on December 31, 2012. The ride is currently undergoing construction, and is expected to open on April 10, 2014.
